How to Prepare Your Vehicle for a Roadworthy Certificate Inspection in NSW

posted in: Uncategorized 0

In New South Wales, a roadworthy certificate — officially known as an eSafety Check or pink slip — is essential for renewing registration on vehicles more than five years old. Preparing your vehicle for inspection not only increases your chances of passing the first time but also avoids unnecessary delays or costly repairs. Here’s how to get your car inspection-ready, especially if you’re located in Brookvale, Dee Why, Manly or anywhere on the Northern Beaches.

1. Check Your Tyres

Your tyres must have a minimum tread depth of 1.5mm and be free from cracks, bulges or uneven wear. Don’t forget to check the spare tyre too — it also needs to meet the legal standard. We can assist with tyre checks and replacements during your vehicle inspection.

2. Test All Lights and Indicators

Make sure all headlights, brake lights, reverse lights, indicators and number plate lights are working correctly. Replace any blown bulbs and clean cloudy or foggy lenses to ensure visibility meets inspection standards.

3. Inspect Your Brakes

Your car’s braking system must be in good condition with no grinding noises, pulling to one side, or delayed stopping. If you’re unsure, book in a brake check or service at our Brookvale workshop to be safe before your pink slip inspection.

4. Check Windscreen and Wipers

Windscreens must be free of major chips or cracks in the driver’s line of vision. Your wipers also need to clear the screen effectively, and the washer fluid reservoir should be full and working. If in doubt, replace wiper blades and top up the washer fluid.

5. Ensure Seatbelts Are in Working Order

All seatbelts must retract smoothly, lock under tension, and show no fraying or damage. If any seatbelt is faulty, it will need to be repaired or replaced to pass inspection.

6. Look for Fluid Leaks

Inspect under the car for oil, brake fluid, coolant or transmission leaks. Even small drips can result in a failed inspection. Our mechanics can diagnose and fix leaks ahead of your rego check.

7. Make Sure the Horn, Mirrors and Battery Are Working

All mirrors must be secure and free from cracks. Your horn should work clearly, and your battery terminals must be clean and tightly connected.

8. Clean Your Vehicle

While not a formal requirement, a clean vehicle allows the inspector to carry out checks more efficiently — especially under the vehicle and around the engine bay. A tidy car also shows that it’s well looked after.
